This project aims to create an interactive, collaborative map of key archival actors and institutions in Africa, including national archives, universities, professionals and organizations. Developed using the free and open-source tool GogoCarto, it is part of the second phase of ICA's Africa Programme, which aims to strengthen visibility and connections within the African archival network.
More information about the Africa programme can be found here.
The ICA is a non-governmental organisation, founded in 1948, dedicated to the promotion and management of archives worldwide. Its primary mission is to promote cooperation among archival professionals, to encourage best practices in records management, and to ensure the preservation of the archival heritage for future generations. The ICA works with UNESCO and other institutions to strengthen archival capacity worldwide, promote access to information, and advocate for the vital role of archives in transparency and collective memory.
Through its Africa Programme, the ICA undertakes various initiatives to promote archival development across the African continent. This programme aims to support the improvement of archival infrastructure, strengthen the skills of professionals and promote access to archives in Africa. It includes training activities, digitisation projects and support for national and regional archival associations. One of its key objectives is to ensure that African archives play a vital role in preserving the continent's history and cultural heritage, while addressing contemporary challenges related to governance and transparency.
The Archilab is a research and experimentation laboratory within the Department of Information Science at the Geneva School of Business Administration (HEG Genève). It fosters collaboration between students, researchers and professionals to explore innovative approaches to archiving and data preservation. By integrating research into academic programmes, it contributes to the training of future information professionals.
Archilab also contributes to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage by developing innovative solutions for institutions and the public. Located at the intersection of research and practice, it seeks to address current challenges in the archival field while anticipating future developments in information science.

You can find here the relevant informations about data use:
When an item is added or modified, the data is not updated instantly. The item will first appear ‘greyed out’ on the map, and it will then be possible for all logged-in users to vote once and once only for this item. This vote is not an opinion, but a sharing of knowledge. If you know this feature, or know that it doesn't exist, then we want to hear from you!
After a certain number of votes, the item may be automatically validated or rejected. In the event of a dispute (with both positive and negative votes), a moderator will intervene as quickly as possible. We're counting on you!
